They were DeMontigny's and lived in the Pas and Binscarth, Manitoba. I now live amongst the Mohawk in Six Nations Territory and I need to know my clan in order for my newborn son to be given his Indian name. My partner's clan is Bear. Do the Cree have a similar system? The relatives I have contacted have been brought up Catholic and don't know the old ways. Also, is there a Cree ceremony for name giving? I was also brought up without knowing these traditions and would appreciate any help offered. My son will be brought up with the Longhouse traditions and Mohawk language but I would still like him to know about his Cree ancestry.
