Announcing and Publicizing a Server

How can I announce my new server on the net?

The CERN Registry:

http://www.w3.org/hypertext/DataSources/WWW/Geographical_generation/new-servers.html

NCSA's What's New Page:

http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/SDG/Software/Mosaic/Docs/whats-new.html

The Site of Sites:

http://web.city.ac.uk/citylive/pages.html

The ALIWEB Indexor:

http://web.nexor.co.uk/aliweb/doc/aliweb.html

Submit It!

Register with Lycos, Yahoo, EINet, Webcrawler, etc.
http://www.cen.uiuc.edu/~banister/submit-it/

The newsgroup:

comp.infosystems.www.announce

Please read the instructions on how to post to the group before posting. The instructions are usually posted to the newsgroup quite frequently.

The MacHTTP & WebSTAR Servers List

http://brad.net/webstar/newsubmissions.html

This service only lists servers using MacHTTP and WebSTAR. Set up and maintained by Brad Schrick - brad@ape.com.

Most universities or other organizations running their own WWW server have a method for announcing or placing a link to their page. More than likely if you check your university's home page there are directions on how to do this.

You may also want to announce your site to newsgroups and mailing lists applicable to the topic(s) your site covers, e.g., if you have a page describing your LEGO collection, you'll want to announce this to rec.toys.lego.
