How can I get my Mac to turn itself back on after a power failure if it uses the keyboard power-key to power on?

[This doesn't apply to Macs with 'hard' power switches, only those that depend on the keyboard power-key to power up.]

To have 'soft-power' Macs automatically power on after a power failure, you need to use the special power switch located at the back of the Mac. You may have previously used this switch to force a shutdown after a crash. Push this button in and (with a screwdriver or small coin) rotate it until it is locked in. Having this button pressed in will cause the Mac to always try to power up when it is off (which means you'll have to let the button out again if you want the Mac to actually shut off when you tell it to shutdown from the Finder).
