The conference is divided into 3 themes:
Exposing the human rights and environmental atrocities caused by the oil industry
Making the necessary transition to appropriate and sustainable energy sources
Building the fundamental global changes necessary for a participatory and equitable future.
For the first time local, national, and international organisations will gather to educate, inform, and mobilize citizens to take on the global oil industry. The conference will dispel common myths about the need for oil, and present up to date information about alternatives and choices regarding its use. Participants will become part of a global movement that is challenging the oil industry and creating a brighter future.
Groups supporting the conference include Friends of the Earth, Amnesty International US, Amnesty International Canada, Movement for the Survival for the Ogoni People-Canada, Project Underground, Rainforest Action Network, Sierra Youth Coalition, Sierra Club of Canada, Council of Canadians, Ozone Action-US, Greenpeace-Canada, the Ruckus Society, Parkland Institute, Environmental Resource Centre, and local environmental, social justice, and indigenous groups.
